Yacht Charter Under Level 2 Covid-19 Alert New Zealand

Announcement made by the New Zealand Marine Transport Association. The government announced yesterday that New Zealand would enter level 2 on Thursday the 14th of May.

Charter Operations under Level 2
The short answer is YES, you can start taking out passengers under Level 2, however, operators should refer to the guidance on the Covid website for workplaces as the same rules apply. The link for this information is as follows:
The most relevant section in this document is:
Engaging with customers
At Alert Level 2 businesses can have customers on their premises if they can meet public health requirements. This means businesses should:

  • have good contact registers, or contact tracing records, in place to record everyone who you interact with on your premises
  • maintain physical distancing of 1 metre between groups of customers, or 2 metres if not possible to keep contact tracing records
  • not have groups larger than 10 people
  • maintain a 2 hour time limit for groups to be on your premises (we will clarify this for boats).

So that would mean – no individual group of customers more than 10, but you can have multiple groups up to the limit on the boat, provided that there is the ability for 1 metre between groups, and contact tracing records in place; plus people on the boat no longer than 2 hours.  Maritime NZ will hopefully send out further guidelines over the next few days.
