Caribbean

The Caribbean is a group of islands more than 3,200 kms (2,000 miles) long, separating the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.

The climate of the area is tropical, but rainfall varies with elevation, size, and water currents. The region enjoys year-round sunshine divided into 'dry' and 'wet' seasons, with the last six months of the year being wetter than the first half.

The Caribbean offers some of the best diving and snorkelling opportunities. Swim with stingrays at Stingray City, explore coral reefs, or dive into the famous underwater wall at the Bloody Bay Marine Park in Little Cayman.

Caribbean food includes all of your favourites—seafood, chicken, and steak—prepared with the flavorful and colourful ingredients of the islands. Some popular dishes are coconut shrimp, jerk chicken pasta, chicken kebabs, ribs with guava BBQ sauce, key lime pie, and the famous Callaloo, a dish containing leafy vegetables and sometimes okra.

Famous for its vibrant festivals and carnivals celebrated throughout the region, you will without a doubt find events scattered that showcase the region's music, dance, costumes, and joyful spirit. The most renowned carnival is held in Trinidad and Tobago, but other islands, such as Barbados, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, also have celebrations.
